Selected families will receive $1,000 each month for three months by being matched with a sponsor.
NEW YORK—Today, the Humanity Forward Foundation and The $1k Project announced a new partnership to maximize their efforts to provide financial assistance to families in need amidst the pandemic. As the United States’ $600 per week unemployment benefits expire, the two entities will work to close a severe financial gap for thousands of families in need.
Selected recipients will receive $1,000 each month for three months through the anonymous direct giving program, which matches a family impacted by the pandemic with a family, or a pool of individuals, able to give back.
The assistance is intended to help individuals who have been laid-off during the current crisis, and they must be nominated by their current or previous employer to become eligible for a sponsor match through the program.
To sponsor a family through the HFF x The $1k Project program, individuals can commit to donating $3,000 ($1,000 per month for three months), and to do so, should complete the form available on the Humanity Forward Foundation website. Individuals may also donate to a sponsorship pool ($50 minimum donation, text 815-393-1070).
In order to help more families, Humanity Forward Foundation, a nonprofit founded by former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, will match donations up to $1 million.
“Working-class Americans who have been laid off due to the pandemic have already been struggling to make ends meet,” Andrew Yang said. “Imagine the hardship they are going to face as millions lose an additional $600 a week in unemployment assistance. We’re committed to getting money to families in need, and collaborating with the $1k Project will allow us to do so as quickly as possible.”
In response to the economic crisis caused by the pandemic, Humanity Forward Foundation has donated millions of dollars to thousands of individuals and families in the form of one-time microgrant payments. To date, the $1k Project has helped 370 families through $1.1 million in sponsorships and has been featured in The New York Times, Forbes, and Geekwire.
The Humanity Forward Foundation is a new 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded by Andrew Yang, dedicated to promoting research and education around universal basic income and to providing charitable cash assistance to Americans in need. View the official HFF x $1k Project launch video here.
